OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) (RECIPIENT OF DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS) Ulick Bell Jr., aged 91 years, of Middleboro, died on Mon. January 9, 2012, at his home, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita (Downs) Bell, who predeceased him in February of 2002; they had been married for 58 years. Born and educated in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Ulick and Winifred (Cunnane) Bell. Ulick was proud of his Irish heritage. He had served in the United States Air Corps, during WWII, as a pilot, and had been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Ulick served with the Red raiders in the battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. Ulick was a retired cabinet maker. He is survived by a son, Ulick and his wife Donna Bell III of Lakeland, FL, two daughters, Leslie and her husband Dick Custer of Somerset, PA, Joanne and her husband Keith Macdonald of Middleboro, a sister, Margaret Flattery of New York, 6 grandchildren, Ulick Bell, Colin, Caitlin, and Courtney Macdonald, Allyn and Bryson Custer, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Patricia Uronick. Visiting hours will be held in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro, on Thurs. January 12th from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Fri. January 13th at 8 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St Middleboro, at 9 am. Burial will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:15 am.
