Joseph F Powers Jr., aged 76 years, passed away peacefully on Thurs.
February 17, 2011, under the compassionate care of the staff at the Colony House

, Abington. He was born in
Methuen
, son of the late Elizabeth (Lillis) and Joseph F Powers. He lived in
Danvers
, in his early years, and then resided in Middleboro where he spent most of his
life. Joseph was a graduate of
Middleboro
High School
, class of 1952. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the
aircraft carrier Ticonderoga during the Korean conflict and while stationed in
Norfolk
,
VA
, he had the distinction of playing with the Navy “Blue Jacket” basketball
team. After serving in the Navy, he continued his education at Newman Prep and
Boston
College
. In the following years, he was affiliated as a sales person with the Clary
Corporation and Sweda Monroe. Joseph was a gifted artist, enjoyed music and was
a sports enthusiast throughout his life. He was faith filled and devoted to his
family and friends. Survivors include his special friend; Maria Monahan of
Pembroke, two brothers; Thomas V Powers of East Taunton, John W Powers of
Mattapoisett, 6 sisters; Kathleen Lynch of NJ, JoAnne Cadorette of Bridgewater,
Elizabeth Cabral of South Dartmouth, Margaret Correia of Lakeville, Rosemary
Comeau of Bourne, and Brenda Calligan of CA. He was brother-in-law of Linda
Powers of Middleboro, wife of the late Terrance V Powers. Joseph was the proud
uncle of many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral services
will be held from the Ashley Funeral Home,
35 Oak St.
Middleboro, on Tues. Feb. 22nd at 9 am, followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at
Sacred
Heart
Church
,
340 Centre St
Middleboro, at 10 am. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Middleboro.
