John D Cavanaugh Jr., aged 89 years, of Middleboro, died on Tues.
February 22, 2011 at Caritas Good Samaritan Hospital,
Brockton
, from respiratory complications following a fall. He was the husband of the
late Marjorie (Ferron) Cavanaugh, and the longtime companion of the late
Gertrude “Trudy” Sturtevant. He had been a resident of Middleboro for the
past 43 years. He was a member of the depression era Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC) and a WWII veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving at sea in the
North Atlantic
and South Pacific. He retired from Western Auto Company after more than 30
years. He was a communicant of
Sacred
Heart
Church
, Middleboro, and was a Eucharistic minister delivering communion to nursing
home residents, and sang in the church choir. He was a long time member and
officer of the Pocksha Canine Club and a fixture at local rabies clinics.
Survivors include his son; David and his wife Ann Cavanaugh, two grandchildren;
Robert and Andrew Cavanaugh, all of Middleboro, two sisters; Catherine Quinn and
Shirley Libby, several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held in the
Ashley Funeral Home,
35 Oak St.
Middleboro, on Sun. Feb. 27th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral
services will be held from the funeral home on Mon. at 9 am, followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial will be held in
Sacred
Heart
Church

Middleboro, at 10 am. Burial will take place in
Cavalry
