OBITUARY: ( ST. PETERSBURG , FL )

            Lemuel James “Lem” Dowell III, aged 47 years, of Englewood , FL , formerly of Quincy , Marshfield , and Middleboro, died on Tues. June 12, 2007, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in St. Petersburg , FL , after a lengthy illness. Born in Quincy , on March 27, 1960, he was the son of the late Lemuel J. Jr. and Helen (Dwyer) Dowell. He was a graduate of Marshfield High School , class of 1978. He served in the United States Navy from 1984-1988. He owned and operated Alfie’s Restaurant, off of Centre St. in Middleboro, for three years. He also was a cook, bartender, and karaoke specialist, while in Massachusetts . He had spent the last 7 years, in Englewood , FL , and was employed at the Englewood Elks as a cook and function coordinator. He enjoyed working in his yard, cooking, karaoke, the ocean, and being with his family. He will be sadly missed by his extended family in Englewood , especially his friends at the Englewood Elks Lodge. He is survived by his constant companion, Glenn Whisner of Englewood , FL , two brothers; Daniel and his wife Darlene Dowell, Bennett M. Dowell, all of Henderson, TN, three sisters; Tina Asci of Taunton, Michelle and her husband Michael Harrington of Plymouth, and Theresa and her husband Gary Selmon, of Merritt Island, FL, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral services to be held on Mon. June 18th, from the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro, at 8 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am, at Sacred Heart Church , 340 Centre St. Middleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will on Sun. 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery , Bourne.
